Hey Body of Mine
Beneath all the layers of flesh, patterns of movement and beliefs – access and feel the richness of your inner being for the first time
Hey Body of mine
Supple your inner body as you spiral through the fifth line, reigniting to the magnificence that waits patiently inside
Hey Body of mine
As you gyro and the heads of the bones are lifted out of the narrow into space long passed the physical long, you lengthen gracefully like a dancer of the Energy de Ballet
Hey Body of mine
Through a daily practice of GYROTONIC ®, you are the instrument that plugs my being back to the universe
As my awareness slips away from you during the day, with a mindful nudge, you realign so gracefully with an inhale and exhale driving my movement –bringing me back to the gyro juice
Hey Body of mine
Membrane of all
Arch in-service to the omnipresence that flows from the fulcrum of extension
Curl deeply inside the royal palace of the narrow and experience the divine exchange of your corporeal existence as you lift your heart to the arch of your incorporeal being

To push or pull the Cart or Barrow
I did recall Myself to narrow
To not deny the Figure 8
As Seaweed I did undulate
Intending to this Soul perfect
I did endeavor to connect
While searching for the Holy Grail
I came upon the Lobster Tail
When Oyster offered Me its Pearl
I wondered should I arch —or curl
Let the Tiger start his spring
The Bee his dance perchance to sting
Let the Eagle find his wing.

I’ve worked one-on-one with Sebastian for quite a few years now and I can say
that Sebastian Plettenberg is truly a Master!! I am not a dancer but Sebastian
and Gyrotonic exercise have liberated the dancer within me–allowing me to reach farther
and breathe deeper both through and with my body.

“The Gyrotonic method is definitely the best form of exercise I have ever done. I am continually amazed at the flexibility and strength that grows with each session. The intelligence of the movements are such that my body seems to be appreciative of every workout. The work I do at Gyrotonic Manhattan, primarily under the tutelage Sebastian Plettenberg, carries over into daily movements as well as those of my work as a professional cellist. I highly recommend it to everyone.”

“For us Baby Boomers+, the Gyrotonic method is a wonderful way to free the body. Sebastian is not only a greater master of this technique–he inspires by example and fills my heart with joy.”

After suffering with arthritis in both knees for about two years, a knowledgeable dancer and physical therapist guided me to Gyrotonic exercise and to Sebastian Plettenberg. She was right! Within two or three weeks of practicing the basic spinal motions and the related leg/knee/feet exercises, I found that I had much less pain in walking. During the past year, I have been amazed at the result of only 10-15 minutes of homework practice of these movements, combined with one or two private sessions a week with Beth Brandt. I now walk easily and can do every-day movements without pain and the worry of further injury. This is essential to me, because I am a musician in the New York Philharmonic.

Perhaps what I loved most about this workshop is that we had the luxury of time to enter the body. We had two movement workshops a day, not following any format, just internal exploring of breathing and the vibrations of sound. And we explored those elements in a calm, gradual fashion all seven days, which brought me to unimaginable places! It was amazing how my consciousness would just follow where I was going.
We ended up being a group of 40. A lot of people signed up last-minute, and a large proportion of the group was the newer generation of Gyrotonic teachers. It was great to see some new faces and connect with people I had never met before. It was a great group. And as a group, we were able to go places that an individual just can’t get to. My body felt so good and peaceful; I went to a very quiet place. I could start to hear myself.
In some ways the workshop was similar to the breathing workshop but it went so far beyond. Juliu gave us so much more information about breathing and about meditation; so many things I never heard him talk about before. I can’t wait to do it again next year.

Summer. Long days spent reading by the pool; punctuated an occasional cooling dip in the water. Bright sunshine that not only warms my heart and skin, but increases my Vitamin D and serotonin levels to leave me feeling healthy and happy; these are some of my favorite things. I’d much rather be hot than cold but when I’ve had enough of the heat I just move indoors . . . GRYROTONIC® exercise is an indoor sport, after all.

Here is a recent quote from Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City)…
“I have been coming to GYROTONIC® Manhattan for a number of years now and it’s been a great experience. The space is nice, the machines are in excellent condition but the feel of the place is what makes it special. There is a kind of relaxed yet extremely focused energy that really makes you feel welcome and glad you came. Whether you are an experienced practitioner or someone who is trying Gyrotonic exercise for the first time, GYROTONIC® Manhattan is a real find.”
